Carl Larsson painted his children, his garden and the rooms of his home in Sundborn, while Bruno Liljefors watched foxes in their own forest. Isaac Grünewald and Sigrid Hjertén brought bold colour and simplified shapes to Swedish painting, with Stockholm as their favourite subject.
The strong colour fields of the modernists suit diamond painting well, because each area stands clearly apart from the next. In Larsson's scenes the work lies in the details: flowers, patterned textiles and light falling through a window.
