Rabbits and hares to paint

A hare sitting up at the edge of a field, ears raised and alert, is a sight most people know from country walks. The brown hare belongs to summer meadows, while the mountain hare turns white for winter and suits a snowy scene at blue dusk. A tame bunny gives the same subject a softer, more playful mood.

In folklore across Europe the hare has long been tied to spring and the moon, which is why it sits so naturally in both garden and night scenes. The fur is the part worth taking your time over: many small patches of brown, grey and cream add up to the look of soft hair.
