Clear daylight falls on a Cornish clifftop where a wild rabbit sits upright at the mouth of its burrow. Yellow gorse, bluebells and tall pink foxgloves crowd around it, orange lichen speckles the rocks, and beyond the headland the sea breaks white against dark stone.

The rabbit's coat holds the most detailed work: patches of brown, grey and cream interlock in small pieces from back to chest. The sea, the sky and the green slope of the headland fill larger, simpler areas, while yellow gorse blossoms and the wine-red and pink thrift in the foreground repeat across the canvas.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
