The boy in front wears black and a bowler hat; the other, in a brown jacket, stares at the viewer. The painting is Hugo Simberg's The Wounded Angel.

The Wounded Angel, completed in 1903 and part of the Ateneum collection, is among Simberg's most recognisable symbolist works. In a 2006 vote held by the Ateneum, it was named the country's national painting. Notice the angel's bare feet below the stretcher and the boys' solemn faces.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
