Soft light picks out a bouquet of ranunculus and anemones resting on a dark, folded surface. The white anemones have near-black centres, and the stems are bound with rough twine. The most demanding part is the ranunculus petals, where coral, peach and pink layer over each other in small patches.

Black and plum violet cover the folded backdrop beneath the flowers, which fills in as broad dark areas. The grey-green eucalyptus leaves are clear, well-defined shapes, while the twine knot alternates pale and brown strands in tight coils.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
