Poppy, cornflower and yarrow rise from a dark brown ground among ears of grain, while two stems in the middle twist around each other like a braid. Only part of the poppy fits in the frame, beside its bud, and the cornflower opens into jagged blue petals. Dark brown is the largest single colour on the canvas, painted as broad, even areas around the flowers.

Yarrow's cream-white flower head holds the finest work: tiny blossoms with yellow centres sit as small, closely packed areas. The poppy petals come together in large patches of two reds, and the yellow-green stems run as long strips.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
