Frosted hawthorn branches frame a snowy valley under a pale blue sky full of clouds. A tight row of long-tailed tits perches along one twig, while two more fly with their wings spread. The most demanding parts are the berry clusters, where each red berry has its own highlight and shadow.

The berry clusters and frosted twigs are the finest work, since white frost, brown leaves and red fruit alternate in small areas. The birds' pinkish down and black tails come in clearer, simpler shapes. The cloudy pale blue sky and the snowy shrubs in the valley fill in as broad surfaces.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
