A red beret and two fair braids belong to Lisbeth, who leans on a wooden railing with her fishing rod held out over the water. In Carl Larsson's Lisbeth Angling, the still lake mirrors leafy trees and a small red building on the far shore, while another angler sits in a rowboat further out.

Now in the Nationalmuseum, the watercolour dates from 1898 and belongs to A Home, Larsson's series of 26 watercolours. True to the title, it shows an ordinary summer moment close to home. Notice the upright railing slats, with water and moored boats showing between them.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
