A small dark eye and a rust-brown head peer out beneath ox-eye daisies. The partridge stands on a sandy path, its grey breast rounded and its back streaked with brown, while white flowers with yellow centres rise from dense green growth. The image reproduces Bruno Liljefors' painting Grey Partridge with ox-eye daisies.

Grey Partridge with ox-eye daisies dates from 1890. Liljefors places the bird in its own surroundings: the mottled brown plumage merges with the sand and dry stalks of the path, and only the grey breast sets it apart from the ground. The bird stands half sheltered at the edge of the flowers.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
