Bright winter daylight catches a red fox diving front paws first into deep snow. Snow-laden spruces rise behind it, and dry twigs poke through the drifts. Splashes and drips of violet, turquoise and orange run from the fur and the snow, giving the scene a loose watercolour feel.

White and pale blue drifts fill large, even areas that move along quickly. The finest work sits in the fox's head: amber eyes, black-rimmed ears and the white fur on the muzzle. The orange coat and bushy tail mix many shades of rust, orange and violet, while small accent colours hide in the paint splashes.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
