A robin pecks at walnut crumbs on a wooden table beside a bouquet in a dark teal vase. Green and plum hydrangeas, two cream dahlias, rosehip sprays and persimmon branches fill the arrangement. A halved persimmon, cracked walnuts and a knife lie nearby.

Hydrangea florets and layered dahlia petals are the densest painting in the scene, with the shade shifting from one small area to the next. Around the rosehip branches, the near-black background moves in large, even surfaces, and the brown tabletop is painted in broad bands.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
