A pale patch on the bear's chest and its dark muzzle are easy to miss at first. A brown bear walks straight towards the viewer along a leaf-strewn path between grey trunks. Orange-red leaves frame the scene, while the trees further back dissolve into blue-grey mist.

The bear's fur holds the finest detail, with small areas in two browns and deep shadow fitting tightly together. The carpet of leaves in the foreground and the single leaves on the branches are also built from small, precise areas. The blue-grey mist and pale grey trunks, by contrast, are painted as broad, open areas.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
