Coarse salt fills a small blue bowl, and two rivets mark the knife's wooden handle. A halved red cabbage lies on a blue plate, purple and white layers winding around its pale core. Purple-veined leaves, two beetroots and a halved golden beet surround it on a dark teal, yellow-striped check cloth.

Wine red and violet run through the cabbage's cut face in narrow, wavy bands, so the finest painting sits on the plate. The dark blue and black checks around the knife fill in as large, clean-edged shapes. Small accent colours pick out the shine on the beetroots and the salt.

How to get started

  1. Preparation: Check that the package contains all the supplies. Have a glass of water and paper towels nearby for cleaning brushes.
  2. Work order: Start from the top of the canvas and work downwards. This way, you avoid your hand touching wet paint as the work progresses.
  3. One color at a time: Paint all areas of the same number at once. Keep paint cups closed when not in use to prevent acrylic paint from drying.
  4. Brush maintenance: Wash and dry the brush thoroughly each time you change colors. If light paint doesn't cover the number, let it dry and add another layer.
