Do I need a painting easel?
A painting easel is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended for hobbyists for ergonomic reasons. You can conveniently paint without an easel on a table.
What kind of brushes are suitable for paint by numbers?
In paint by numbers, acrylic paints are used, which sets certain requirements for the brushes. To ensure the best results and the most pleasant painting experience, we recommend the following features:
1. Material: Synthetic (Nylon/Synthetic Fiber)
For acrylic paint, the best choice is a high-quality synthetic brush (e.g., nylon).
- Why? Synthetic fiber is more durable than natural hair and doesn't soften too much due to water and acrylic paint. Synthetic bristles have a firmness (known as "spring"), which means they return to their shape after a stroke, which is critical for painting precise edges. Natural hair brushes often absorb too much water, making the paint watery.
2. Size: Precision is key (Sizes 000–2)
Since paint by numbers includes many small areas, you definitely need small brushes (they come with the paint by numbers kits).
- Details: Sizes 0, 00, and even 000 are essential for filling the smallest numbers and corners.
- Medium-sized areas: Sizes 1–3 are suitable for general work.
- Large surfaces: A larger flat brush (size 4–8) is good for painting backgrounds or large uniform color areas without streaks.
3. Shape: Round and Flat
- Round: A pointed round brush is the "workhorse" of paint by numbers. It allows you to make precise outlines and small dots.
- Flat: A flat-tipped brush is good for evenly filling large areas.
Summary:
Although basic brushes come with paint by numbers sets, many enthusiasts purchase a separate brush set (e.g., Swipe brushes). Working is much more comfortable when you have a variety of brushes for different purposes.
How does a correction pen work?
A white correction pen is an excellent tool for covering numbers. If a light paint shade doesn't cover the canvas number in one go, you can first color over the number with the correction pen. Once it has dried, paint the desired color over it – this way, the number won't show through.
